From the Bookworm’s Mouth | The read, reading, and will be read soon list

I don’t know about you, but there’s something about summer that just makes me want to read.

Fall and on into winter, all I want to do is light a candle and write write write. But in the summer . . . well, all I want to do is read allll the books.

And this summer in particular, my reading streak is looking epic.

Since we’re about halfway through the season, I thought now would be a great time to share with y’all some of what I’ve read, what I’m reading, and what I intend to read before summer comes to a close. 😎

Read

The Words We Lost—Nicole Deese

Fog Harbor Romance #1

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Oh, my goodness, this book. A friend of mine surprised me with this beauty, and let me tell ya, you will need tissues with this one.

Hero Rising—P. D. Atkerson

Starbearer #1

GENRE: Superhero

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Finally, a superhero book from Atkerson! 🥳 This one was epic from start to finish. Can’t wait to read more of this series!

Taken—Dee Henderson

GENRE: Contemporary/Thriller

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

My first of Henderson’s and most certainly not my last! The concept of this book really intrigued me and kept me reading all 424 pages. 😜

Countdown—Lynette Eason

Extreme Measure #4

GENRE: Suspense/Thriller

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Eason never disappoints for me. The stakes are as high as ever, and I really enjoyed the MCs.

Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm—Kate Douglas Wiggin

GENRE: Classic

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I haven’t read this book since I was a little girl—probably the reason I don’t remember a thing from it. 😂 Definitely got those Anne Shirley vibes from this girl, which was just so fun.

The Winter of Red Snow and Cannons at Dawn—Kristiana Gregory

GENRE:MG Historical Fiction

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Meet my favorite Revolutionary War duology. 😂 Read both of these on Independence Day and now hereby declare that a tradition for me.

The Black Rose Collection

GENRE: Medieval Romance

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What an awesome collection! I so enjoyed reading through everybody’s novellas—and introducing this gorgeous tome to its permanent residence on my bookshelves. 🥰

No Chance Meeting—Jaye Elliot

No Chance Love #1

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Took me long enough to read this book, I’ll say that. But I’m glad I did. The themes and messages in this book are just spot on. Really enjoyed this one.

Off the Chain—Janice Thompson

Gone to the Dogs #1

GENRE: Contemporary Mystery

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was a fun one! I definitely recommend this to my Texans out there—you’ll see why when you read it. 😉

Bound—Victoria Lynn

GENRE: Contemporary

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This might be a novella in size, but it’s a full-length novel in heart. Found family, adoption, love . . . it’s beautiful.

The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood—Howard Pyle

GENRE: Classic

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My second reading of this tale, and both times were buddy reads. Sensing a trend here? 😇

The Nightmare Virus—Nadine Brandes

GENRE: Sci-fi Portal Fantasy

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I could rant and rave about this book all day long if you let me. I wish I could give Nadine a huge hug for writing this book. I wish I could forget everything that happened and read it all over again for the first time. I wish more people wrote books like this.

The Mysterious Benedict Society—Trenton Lee Stewart

The Mysterious Benedict Society #1

GENRE: MG Mystery

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Have I ever told you how much I love this book?? It’s epic. It’s adventurous. It’s everything a middle grade book should be.

Yours is the Night—Amana Dykes

GENRE: Historical Fiction

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Why haven’t I read this book sooner? Dykes is a master storyteller, with descriptions so vivid they spark to life in your mind. And the premise . . . 💔 Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

City Spies Golden Gate—James Ponti

City Spies #2

GENRE: MG Spy

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Middle grade spy that’s actually clean and decent?? Yes, please! It’s a good day when an author can write a book that’s targeted towards middle grade kids but can still be enjoyed by older audiences.

A Lady’s Guide to Marvels and Misadventure—Angela Bell

GENRE: Historical Fiction

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

How fun was this! Yet another buddy read that I totally sped through. 🙊 Hehe? Hey. It was a blast. And now I want a live ermine stole and menagerie of automaton animals.

Now for what I’m currently reading! Shmall note, I can’t recommend these books (except for Killian Young and Anne of Green Gables. Those are re-reads 😉) since I’ve yet to read them cover to cover. So there’s that for ya. 😜

Currently Reading

These War-Torn Hands—Emily Hayse

INITIAL THOUGHTS: Oh, I am loving this book. It reads like an old-time western but with a lyrical quality that just draws you in.

City Spies Forbidden City—James Ponti

INITIAL THOUGHTS: If things keep up this way, I might have to splurge on the rest of the series. 😶

Anne of Green Gables—L. M. Montgomery

INITIAL THOUGHTS: Aww, I haven’t read this thing since I was a wee thing. I can’t wait to get back into this lovely story world.

Killian Young—P. D. Atkerson

INITIAL THOUGHTS: Why do I relate with Killain so much? 👀

Olivetti—Allie Millington

INITIAL THOUGHTS: Welp. The first several chapters coupled with a friend's warning that I’ll need tissues and things are going great, why do you ask. 😑

The Roads We Follow—Nicole Deese

INITIAL THOUGHTS: I’m not that far in. But since Chip’s name has already shown up on the second page, I know I’m gonna love it. 😁

Believe it or not, I’ve tackled a lot of my Summer Reading List. Which is a feat, considering there’s over thirty books on the list . . .

Here’s what I have left. 😜

Will Read This Summer

Coral—Sara Ella

The Colors of Rain—Abigail Hayven
