This one look familiar? 😂 Yes, that's my name on that beautiful cover (Great job on that, Abigail!). In this review, I wanted to go into each story, give my honest thoughts, and give you an idea of what each one is about and what's in it. Enjoy!
A Voice in the Night -Abbigail Raine B.
This was such a beautiful story. The feel was so on point and the message—Mmm. I love stories where the unexpected leads you to truth. This has to be one of my favorite short stories, hands down.
Content: This story does deal with some hard topics, such as a man trying to find his girlfriend and child who was born out of wedlock. The author mentions drugs and people on them—*SPOILER* one person ODs—and there is some violence/roughing up. Nothing in detail.
Too Young for Christmas
-Chelsea Burden
This was such a bittersweet story about a young, single dad, wrestling with the feeling of being too young. I don't know about some of you, but this resonates. Chelsea did a great job portraying Brett's struggle.
Content: Brett is a very young father, left with an infant son, but nothing inappropriate or morally wrong happens/happened.
Salt Cookies -Julia Cassidy
This was a cute story about a young wife who's stressing to impress the in-laws. I especially love the ending and how Cassidy brought the story full circle. 🥰
Content: None.
Everly After -Abigail K. Harris
I adore this story. The characters, the storyline, everything. And the main character is Air Force! (Abigail, I'm just saying. It's about dang time, girl. 😆) I knew about Everly After from its infant stage, and I'm so glad to be able to share a collection with it. 🥰 Caleb has a heart of gold, Justice I adore, and Everly is so beautiful.
Content: None.
Her Unexpected Rescue
-Katja H. Labonté
Well, Katja has done it again. Every single book she writes seems to meet me right where I'm at in life. Isabella thinks she's stranded for the holidays when she's invited over to her grandmother's... and gets stuck on the way. I sympathized fully with this girl, and I absolutely loved the outcome of this story (and the people in it!).
Content: None.
Unconditional -M.L. Milligan
Laylah Borden is flying in to spend the New Year's week with family... when she gets picked up by the last person she wanted to see.
The idea for this story literally came out of nowhere, but I'm so glad I went with it. Laylah and Levi are some of my favorite characters now. 🥰 (In fact, I loved them so much in Unconditional that the next anthology will show more of them!)
Content: Mentions of a person in the hospital. There's a truck crash, but nobody is harmed.
A Heart Without Christmas
-R.L. Peterson
This was the sweetest story ever! I loved the view of a Yankee soldier behind the Confederate lines and Liberty was the cutest thing! Her devotion to an enemy soldier and all her childish quirks made me smile the whole way through it.
Content: A soldier is wounded on a battlefield, and is close to dying, but it doesn't go into detail.
Despite the Odds
-Kaytlin Phillips
A WWII short about a soldier trying to make it home to his girl for Christmas. Lane was willing to do anything it took, from squishing into taxis to riding in the back of a cattle trailer and let me tell ya! The odds were certainly stacked against him, that's for sure. Phillips did a great job on in this historical short.
Content: None.
