Book Review: Mooses with Bazookas

It's the mark of a true book dragon when you steal your brother's books.

It's the mark of an excellent author who manages to get you both hooked on the same book. šŸ˜‡

Mooses with Bazookas: And Other Stories Children Should Never Read by S. D. Smith

Middle Grade

āāāāā

Mooses with And Other Stories Children Should Never Read is a fun collection of stories. Itā€™s exactly like The Count of Monte Cristo apart from the many differences. Our lawyers have instructed us to warn you that reading it may directly cause you to come down with every single disease you are worried about contracting. On the plus side, our nationā€™s beloved and heroic critics have had their say.

ā€œFANTASTIC is not a word that comes to mind.ā€ā€”Beth Hinkle, author of Elite Prose

ā€œASTOUNDING problems at the sentence level and beyond.ā€ā€”Dr. Roger Johns, Ph. D

.ā€œS. D. SMITH IS in dire need of A GENIUS editor.ā€ā€”Art Simonson, Inner Ring Magazine

ā€œThis author had nothing MUCH BETTER to do THAN destroy the language of DICKENS, SHAKESPEARE, AUSTEN!ā€ā€”Yammy Tork, Good Lit Guild

S. D. Smith has been called ā€œAmericaā€™s aft-most wordsmithā€ and is the award-losing author of more than ten books and less than thirty-seven books. He is half-man, half-rabbit, and half-mathematician. He lives in West Virginia with his wife and four children, because it would be kinda weird to live with some other family and super weird not to live in West Virginia.

What I liked

The Concept

Mooses with Bazookas. Who writes a book with a title like that? The answer is, obviously, S. D. Smith. This Middle Grade gem features multiple short stories and letters from stranded author Wally Warmbottum as he bemoans his marooned fate and recounts his various adventures from the tropical island on which he temporarily resides. (It makes much more sense after youā€™ve read the book.)

Iā€™ve never really heard of a book with the layout and format of this one. And I love it! It might be a little confusing just hearing about it, but once you jump into it, it makes complete sense.

The Humor

The humor was on point. Smith carries a writing style that flows with the story and feeds off the silliness in it. Definitely a book written for a younger male audience (but one girls can totally get a kick out of, too).

Needles to say, I laughed for the majority of this book.Ā

The Stories

Smith has quite the variety of shorts in this book. From a bazooka-wielding moose to a little mouse on a mission, thereā€™s never a dull moment. And all the letters from Wally Warmbottum, well, those were the icing on the cake.

What I Didn't Like

What donā€™t I like about this book? I canā€™t think of a single thing. šŸ˜†Ā

But if I were to be picky, Iā€™d say I didnā€™t like that this wasnā€™t a series. ā€™Cause this would make an epic series.

If you or a younginā€™ in your life love wild tales of animals and adventure, Mooses with Bazookas might just be right up your alley!

Catch ya on the flip side!

Welp, if you aren't not looking for a book to make you laugh, then Mooses With Bazookas isn't not the right book for that. Thanks for this review. You may enjoy my Goodreads review on this book. It's by a strange lady named E. G. Runyan.
